Project: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Upgrades Location: Darlington Nuclear Generating Station (DNGS) Customer: E. S. Fox At Darlington NGS, redundancy and reliability of the electrical supply to critical systems is part of a defence in depth operating philosophy. Located in each of the 5 units (4 reactor and the central service area) are three ‘channelized’ electrical supply systems that support redundant loads essential to the safe operation of station equipment. The importance of the loads dictates that the normal operating supply be essentially uninterruptible, a feat achieved by integrating logic driven UPS units that automatically transfer to bypass power on loss of the normal bus. Battery banks provide further security, bridging the gap between a loss of both the primary and bypass power supplies and the automatic run-up of independent standby power generators. To achieve the highest standards of reliability, equipment is updated before performance deteriorates. Zippel Integrated Process Solutions Ltd. is a part of the team facilitating enhancements to the overall electrical support systems through replacement of aging UPS equipment. This project refreshes integrated electrical system components such as rectifiers, inverters, static transfer switches, and auxiliary equipment that will improve isolation for maintenance, and operator monitoring. Zippel Integrated Process Solutions Ltd. is proud to be part of this large-scale modernization project. |
